Nehalennia
The Goddess Nehalennia is native to my birthplace, Zeeland. She is the Goddess of the Shore, where the Schelde and the North Sea meet each other, where land and water meet eachother.
De Schelde or Scaldis originates in France, from a gentle well. A well that was well looked after, by those who understood that water and land are both holy, and working together they enrich and nourish the surroundings. It is said to be part of the Kingdom of water nymphs.
The people of Zeeland honored the Goddess of the shore
and when the Romans conquered the country, they named her Nehalennia.
After the 3rd century
Her worship disappeared, as the sea invaded the land, destroying the temples
and hiding the ruins.
Only 13 centuries later remains of a temple dedicated
to her became visible in Domburg, Zeeland.
Then in the 1970’s and even more in recent years many altars dedicated to her
were found. And the knowledge about her existence, and of her wisdom, has resurfaced
as well once again.
When formerly powerful deities are no longer honored
and called upon, their essence does not disappear, but it goes into hiding,
within the collective unconsciousness and folklore.
When worshipped and remember once again, they return to bring ancient soulmessages
to the people in our day and age.
Nehalennia symbolizes
transition and connection, between the water and the land, between river and
sea, between salt water and sweet water, between life and death. Between the
old and the new, guiding us to the next phase of our future. There where there
is both and none, a pause, an in-between.
She communicates in whispers, like the soft pulling of the wind that always is
present at the shores of the river and sea. Even in the biggest storm there is
a center where you can listen to the quiet whispers.

All diese Lehren lasse ich in meine Arbeit in IJsselstroom, Centre for WellBeing, einfließen.
I have travelled an interesting and curvy path in my life, from growing up in a small town near the sea in the Netherlands to living in an Aboriginal community in the tropical rainforest in North Queensland in Australia. From being a university lecturer in psychology and anthropology to working on my heart-project spreading awareness, kindness and happiness in the world.
I can feel the importance in my bones of remembering and bringing to the surface our ancient Goddess wisdom and combine it with the new that is coming up, realizing we are part of a larger picture which is about inclusivity, about this field beyond right and wrong.
I am very grateful to all the amazing teachers I have met in my life, that have given me wisdom on systemic constellations, womb healing, shamanism, goddess teachings, focusing, the work, NLP, meditation and mindfulness, and intentional creativity. I incorporate all these teachings in my work at IJsselstroom, Centre for WellBeing.
I also have a divine felting project called Meraki Intentional Creativity where I make sacred felt sculptures, altar circles and goddesses.
